Foot Health Week 2009

“My feet are killing me” is a common cry. Given that the average person will walk 128,000 km in a lifetime, the equivalent to three times round the earth, it is no surprise that so many people suffer with sore feet. Yet a common misconception is that foot pain is normal; it is not.

A recent survey found that one in five Australians suffer foot pain, yet only one in five people with foot pain seek professional treatment for their problem. The complex mechanics of feet and the wide range of foot problems demand professional expertise.

Your podiatrist is qualified to deal with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. You do not need a referral to see a podiatrist.

Are you one in five? To find a podiatrist near you, log on to www.findapodiatrist.org or contact your local Podiatry Association.
