About the Career Framework

About the Career Framework

The objective of the Career Framework is to provide a clear and uniform career progression beyond initial training. Our aim is to credential competencies and clinical skills rather than academic achievements.

Structure of the Framework

The overarching principles of the Career Framework have been taken from the CanMEDs roles. The CanMEDs model is used internationally for frameworks for health professional standards.

The CanMEDs roles are:
• Clinicall Expert
• Communicator
• Collaborator
• Leader
• Health Advocate
• Scholar
• Professional

Interest area curriculums
Each interest area will consist of a curriculum which details the specific requirements of that particular subject.

The interest areas are:
• High Risk Foot
• Paediatrics
• Sports Podiatry

Participating podiatrists will need to develop self-directed learning plans to aid their progression through the Framework.

Participants will be required to meet specific competencies, as detailed in their curriculum, in the areas of:
• Assessment & Management of the Foot and Lower Limb – including case logs
• Leadership in Paediatric Podiatry
• Contribution to Evidence
• Contribution to the relevant Clinical Interest Group

Full details, manuals, and templates will be made available at the launch of the framework.

Portfolio of evidence
Once all competencies have been successfully completed, each participant will submit their portfolio of evidence to the relevant Clinical Interest Group, and/or a National Competency Committee for approval. This will determine if the participant is ready to sit the exam.

Examination
The examinations will be structured in two sections:
• A multiple-choice written examination;
• A viva (oral) examination.
