To become a podiatrist in Australia, you must complete a Bachelor of Podiatry. Post-graduate education, including Graduate Diploma, Master and PhD level courses are also available to podiatrists. Qualifications may result in developed expertise in diabetes care, podiatric surgery, or sports medicine.
All podiatrists must be registered before they are able to practice in Australia. On 1 July 2010, Australia’s first national registration scheme (as well as a new accreditation scheme) came into being, under the auspices of The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Information about the registration process, including applications for registration can be found here.
